MAY 22-24, 2017 — Jason Leigh, principal investigator of the NSF-funded SAGE2 award, hosted a development team meeting at the
Laboratory for Advanced Visualization & Applications (LAVA), University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
Attending were partners from the Electronic Visualization Laboratory at University of Illinois at Chicago; long-term collaborators from Monash University (Australia), National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST, Japan) and Calit2 at University of California, San Diego (U.S.); and, potentially new collaborators from University of Oregon. It was a tremendous opportunity to share experiences and lessons learned, primarily with respect to SAGE2’s latest features and web-based scientific and engineering applications that could potentially be integrated into SAGE2 and linked together. However, additional discussion time was set aside to talk about virtual-reality CAVE2-like systems, software and applications. Most interestingly, the more attendees used SAGE2 to “throw” ideas up onto LAVA’s CyberCANOE wall, the more our collaborators grew dependent on SAGE2 as a necessary collaboration tool and said they would use more regularly once they returned home.
