MAY 8, 2018 — The SAGE2 team at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) participated in technical demonstrations as part of the fourth annual research computing symposium and exposition, Mind Bytes, hosted by the University of Chicago’s Research Computing Center (RCC).
Mind Bytes is a celebration of scholarship and research computing and a unique event that brings together faculty, staff, and students from every corner of the University who share an interest in high-end computing, data, scientific visualization, and the use of computation and data to advance the state of the art of their fields in new ways. In addition to lectures, attendees could attend demos, view posters, and learn about other campus resources.
H. Birali Runesha, University of Chicago’s RRC Director and Assistant Vice President for Research Computing, is in the process of building a large tiled display wall that will run SAGE2, so wanted to introduce attendees to the forthcoming system at this annual event. Teodora Szasz, RRC’s Image Analysis and Data Visualization Specialist, operated SAGE2 in the demo area, and connected to the UIC Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL) for collaborative demos several times that day. Attendees were quick to take out their smartphones and connect to the wall, and manipulate documents on the screen. They watched as EVL’ers (Luc Renambot, Kristine Lee, Andrew Burks, Krishna Bharadwaj and Arthur Nishimoto) shared documents and were not shy about asking questions. In all, it was a very spirited demo!
